So, when we hosted a virtual Mandala Dot Painting event for Meta employees, we wanted it to be more than just a fun team building exercise. We wanted to create a calming, meditative environment that brought together people from all over the world, each working on their own mandala while connecting with their colleagues in a shared artistic experience. Here’s a peek behind the scenes of our team’s preparation to showcase the dedication and care we give to every artistic event!

What is Mandala Dot Painting?

Mandala dot painting is a meditative art form that involves creating intricate, circular patterns using dots of paint. For the Meta team building event, our artists led participants in creating an eight-point mandala that symbolizes harmony and balance. While the repetitive action of dotting is satisfying in and of itself, it also encourages mindfulness, helping participants focus on the present moment and prioritize progress over perfection. 

As Tamara, one of our experienced instructors, shared: “I wanted the participants to feel confident, relaxed, and meditative, understanding that there’s another area inside their own being that wants to create, and it doesn’t have to be perfect.” So what if a dot or two is out of place? That’s part of the beauty of creating your own unique piece of art!

For busy teams, a relaxing, hands-on activity like mandala dor painting is a great way to unwind while still engaging in a collaborative, shared experience. And, as many participants discover, it’s not about making the “perfect” mandala—it’s about enjoying the creative journey.

Prepping for the Perfect Team Building Event

Our team at Dragonfly Designs knows that no masterpiece is created without a little elbow grease! To ensure a smooth, stress-free experience for every participant, Tamara carefully assembled each person’s art kit, which included dotting tools, brushes, paint, practice materials, and stones. These kits were shipped far and wide, ensuring that Meta employees from across the globe had everything they needed with plenty of time to spare.

Our team of artists also practiced the event in advance to make sure everything ran like clockwork. Daynah, another team member, reflected on how helpful this dress rehearsal was: “All the preparation was so very worth it. I felt confident going into the event because we really did go over every single little thing beforehand, and I think it showed.”

As lead artist for the event, Hamilton created a step-by-step guide with detailed instructions and pictures to make sure every team member knew what to do. This document came in handy when participants needed help during the event. As Daynah explained, “It was easy for me to help people when they got stuck because I could find the exact step they were on and guide them from that point forward.” Even in a virtual environment, our team takes care to ensure every participant stays on track, so no team member feels left behind! 

The Joy of Coming Together Through Art

Art has a special way of bringing people together, even in a virtual setting. We were so impressed by the number of Meta team members who bravely took themselves off mute to show their work to the group, leading one participant to observe: “Individually, ours kind of look…imperfect, but together they look great! Just like our TEAM!” 

Afterward, Cassie, the event organizer from Meta, shared her thoughts: “You made the process for getting everything set up so seamless (which is no easy feat for such a large group)! The team had the BEST time and really enjoyed the mandalas. It was such an enjoyable event, and I’m very grateful for the kit because I will definitely be trying to do some mandalas at home!” It makes our hearts sing when an artistic experience not only entertains but also inspires people to continue exploring their imagination!
